EMT Class Receives Certifications

A group of students thumbnail247438
ERHS students enrolled in Mr. Gerken’s EMT class participated in a two-day trip to the Nassau County EMS Academy in Bethpage where they received important training and certifications.

On the first day the students were instructed in the proper techniques for performing CPR on adults, children, and infants. They were also instructed in the proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

On the second day they learned and practiced techniques for a variety of first aid skills, including applying pressure to a wound and wrapping it with the roll of gauze and properly applying a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Other skills practiced were administering an EpiPen on each other (a training one, of course) and they practiced how to respond to a person choking.

The two days were a success for those involved as they will receive certifications for CPR, AED, and First Aid.
