The Junior-Senior High School CANstruction team donated more than 1,700 cans in this double award-winning build at the CANstruction Long Island build at RXR Plaza in Uniondale.

During a period of 12 hours, the team was asked to construct a sculpture out of cans that would lift the spirits of those in need, raise public awareness to hunger on Long Island, and fill the shelves of local food banks. Competing against other schools on Long Island, the builds were judged in a variety of categories and then open to the public for viewing with the cost of admission being a can of food.

Congratulations to the East Rockaway team whose masterpiece titled, TIME to End Hunger, won Best CANfiguration (structural integrity) and Most CANtabulous (juror’s favorite).

People can visit the exhibit in person and donate food as a vote for their favorite build. The build with the most donated cans receives the CANstruction Long Island People’s Choice Award (fan favorite). The exhibit is open to the public through Nov. 14 at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale.
